Spain 2008 trip - Estepona

Spain was always one of our dream destinations that finally became a reality in late May - early June of 2008.
Our resort Costa Natura was located near small town of Estepona (population of 37,000), also known as the 'old town'. While at the resort we booked several day trips with Viva Andalusia tour company, to the famous and expectedly exiting destinations in Spain. What came as a real surprise to us that such a treasure as Estepona was only one short bus stop (and only €1.10) away from the resort.

Estepona is one of the few coastal towns that has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character, despite the onslaught of tourism. We made two trips to the town, leaving in the morning, allowing us plenty of time to discover this old town before the crowds rush in, and giving us plenty of photo opportunities.

We enjoyed walking numerous steep, cobbled, narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars, eating in nice little cafes and tapas bars that still serve traditional Spanish delicacies and drinking Spanish servesas and of course famous Caffe con Leche.

Shopping (and dining) lovers will enjoy a walk along pedestrian only Calle Real, just remember siesta break, when all the shop get closed for a couple of hours. But not to worry - you can spend this time on a wide, clean Mediterranean beach just a block away or just take a walk along beautiful beach walk.
The sand on the beach is gray, not your yellow Caribbean Beach sand, but very clean and groomed. And don't expect water to be warm in May, once again Caribbean Islands are much warmer that time of the year.

All in all it was a great experience.
